Job Summary

Oakridge Landscape Contractors is seeking a Senior Horticultural Specialist to lead plant care and landscape maintenance on busy job sites in Hamilton. Salary range: $62,400 – $72,800 per year.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, planting, and maintenance of horticultural projects across residential and commercial sites.
• Supervise junior horticultural staff, providing training, guidance and performance feedback.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure plant health, proper irrigation, and compliance with design specifications.
• Select appropriate plant species, soils and mulches for local climate conditions.
• Develop and implement integrated pest‑management and fertilisation programmes.
• Maintain accurate records of plant inventories, work schedules and site progress.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers and clients to deliver high‑quality landscape outcomes.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in horticulture, landscaping or related trade.
• Formal qualification in horticulture, plant science or a related field (e.g., NZ Certificate in Horticulture, Diploma or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand native and ornamental plant species, soil types and irrigation systems.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience on construction or landscape sites.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and organisational skills.
• Valid New Zealand driver’s licence and ability to work on varied terrain.
