Recent Activity
Are you a passionate Fire Engineer ready to tackle complex fire protection challenges without the daily commute? We are seeking a detail-oriented Fire Protection Engineer to join our fully distributed team, designing cutting-edge fire suppression and alarm systems for commercial and industrial clients across the United States. If you thrive on solving critical safety puzzles and want the flexibility to work from your home office, this remote opportunity is engineered for your success.
About the Role
As a Remote Fire Engineer, you serve as the technical authority behind advanced fire safety strategies that protect people, property, and business continuity. Operating entirely from your home office, you will partner with architects, construction managers, and code officials to develop compliant, innovative fire protection designs for high-profile developments ranging from data centers to multifamily residential towers. This is not a field installation role; it is a specialized engineering position centered on computational modeling, hydraulic analysis, and life safety code consulting delivered through cloud-based BIM and project management platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Protection Design & Engineering Analysis
- Develop comprehensive fire protection engineering designs, including sprinkler system layouts, special hazard suppression, smoke control timelines, and egress modeling using industry-leading simulation software.
- Perform rigorous building code and life safety code analysis against NFPA, IBC, ICC, and FM Global standards to ensure every project exceeds baseline regulatory requirements.
- Conduct advanced fire dynamics and evacuation simulations to validate system performance in complex architectural environments.
Project Leadership & Remote Client Collaboration
- Lead virtual coordination meetings with MEP teams, structural engineers, and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to streamline plan reviews and secure timely approvals.
- Author detailed engineering reports, hydraulic calculation binders, and fire risk assessments that serve as legal documentation for commercial, healthcare, and industrial facilities.
- Review third-party contractor drawings, submittals, and shop drawings to identify potential risks and optimize system performance long before construction mobilization begins.
Requirements
Education & Professional Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering preferred; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) candidates with a clear path to PE licensure within 12 months will be considered.
- Completed coursework or continuing education in fire dynamics, explosion protection, or life safety code development is strongly desired.
Experience & Technical Proficiency
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in fire protection design, code consulting, or life safety engineering for commercial, institutional, or mission-critical buildings.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, hydraulic calculation software such as HASS or HydraCAL, and familiarity with fire dynamics simulation tools including FDS or CFAST.
- In-depth working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, ICC family of codes, and OSHA safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex project timelines independently while maintaining meticulous attention to detail in a fully remote setting.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range
We provide a market-competitive compensation package calibrated to specialized safety engineering talent operating in the remote economy. The anticipated salary range for this fully remote Fire Engineer position is $82,000 – $118,000 USD per year, with exact placement determined by years of relevant experience, PE licensure status, and demonstrated forensic or performance-based design expertise. Exceptional senior-level candidates with niche specializations may qualify for offers exceeding this band.
Premium Benefits Package
- 100% remote work structure with asynchronous flexibility and no mandatory on-site travel requirements.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage effective from your first day of employment.
- 401(k) retirement plan featuring a generous 6% company match with immediate vesting to accelerate your long-term financial growth.
- Annual professional development stipend of $2,500 for PE license renewals, NFPA certifications, CAD software training, and virtual industry conferences.
- $1,000 home office technology allowance upon hire plus a recurring monthly internet and mobile reimbursement.
- Uncapped PTO policy, paid parental leave, and dedicated volunteer time off to support work-life harmony and community engagement.
