About the Role
As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you will act as the on‑site eyes and hands for our distributed datacenter footprint. Although you work remotely, you’ll coordinate with local field partners, dispatch technicians, and guide them through hardware installations, replacements, and preventive maintenance via video conferencing, ticketing systems, and real‑time monitoring dashboards. Your expertise ensures minimal downtime, optimal performance, and adherence to SLAs for our enterprise‑grade clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Remote diagnostics and troubleshooting of servers, storage arrays, and network gear (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Dell EMC, HPE).
- Coordinate and oversee field technician activities, providing step‑by‑step guidance for hardware swaps, firmware upgrades, and cable management.
- Maintain accurate inventory records in CMDB tools; track asset lifecycle from procurement to decommission.
- Perform routine health checks using monitoring platforms (SolarWinds, PRTG, Datadog) and escalate anomalies to senior engineering teams.
- Document procedures, create knowledge‑base articles, and contribute to continuous improvement of standard operating procedures.
- Participate in on‑call rotation (approximately 1 week per month) to provide after‑hours support for critical incidents.
- Ensure compliance with security policies, including physical access controls, data handling, and environmental safety standards.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience with datacenter hardware (rack‑mount servers, SAN/NAS, PDUs, UPS, KVM switches).
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching) and ability to interpret CLI output.
- Proficiency with remote management tools such as iLO, iDRAC, CIMC, and IPMI.
- Experience using ticketing systems (ServiceNow, JIRA Service Management) and monitoring solutions.
- Basic scripting ability (PowerShell or Bash) for automating routine checks is a plus.
- CompTIA Server+, Network+, or equivalent certification preferred; vendor‑specific certs (Cisco CCNA, Dell EMC, HPE) are advantageous.
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Excellent communication skills – able to convey technical instructions clearly to remote field technicians and internal stakeholders.
- Strong problem‑solving mindset with a focus on root‑cause analysis and preventive action.
- Ability to work independently while staying aligned with team goals and shift schedules.
- Detail‑oriented with a commitment to maintaining accurate records and following documented procedures.
- Flexible to adapt to changing priorities and occasional after‑hours support needs.
Benefits
- Fully remote work – set up your home office with a stipend for ergonomic furniture and internet.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance with employer‑paid premiums.
- 401(k) plan with company match.
- Generous paid time off (PTO) plus company holidays.
- Professional development budget for certifications, courses, and conferences.
- Employee assistance program and wellness initiatives.
- Opportunity to work with cutting‑edge infrastructure across multiple industries.
