About This Position

Job Summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer – Low Voltage Power Distribution (GPSSC) to work from Milford, Oakland County, US. This hybrid role requires on‑site presence at the Global Technical Center in Warren, MI or Milford Proving Ground three days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead safety analysis and validation for low‑voltage power distribution systems across vehicle platforms.
  • Develop and maintain safety requirements, hazard analyses (FMEA, FMEDA) and safety cases in compliance with ISO 26262.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (hardware, software, validation, program management) to integrate safety concepts early in the design process.
  • Conduct safety reviews, audits, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Support certification activities and liaise with external regulatory bodies.
  • Drive continuous improvement of safety processes and tools within the GPSSC organization.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in automotive system safety engineering, specifically with low‑voltage power distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 26262, functional safety standards, and automotive electrical architectures.
  • Proven experience with hazard analysis methods (FMEA, FMEDA) and safety case development.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work hybrid, traveling to the Warren or Milford sites three times per week.

Compensation

Annual salary: $113,002.71
