About This Position

Job Summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator for its Heart Transplant Clinic in New Orleans, Orleans Parish. This full‑time role offers a salary of $153,192.02 and provides critical coordination of VAD patient care from implantation through transplant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care for patients receiving ventricular assist devices (VADs), including pre‑operative assessment, device implantation, post‑operative management, and transplant listing.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, families, surgeons, cardiologists, and allied health staff, ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care.
  • Develop and maintain individualized care plans, monitor device parameters, and respond to alarms or complications promptly.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on VAD operation, lifestyle adjustments, medication adherence, and emergency procedures.
  • Track clinical outcomes, collect data for quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to research protocols and publications.
  • Assist with scheduling surgeries, follow‑up appointments, and coordinating home health services.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and Ochsner policies.

Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure in Louisiana.
  • Minimum of 2 years of acute cardiac nursing experience; VAD or heart transplant exposure preferred.
  • Certification in Critical Care (CCRN) or Cardiac Surgery Nursing (RNCS) highly desirable.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills, familiarity with VAD technology (HeartMate, HeartWare, etc.), and ability to interpret hemodynamic data.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and patient‑education abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (Epic) and data reporting tools.
