About This Position
McMaster University is hiring a Policy and Data Development Lead (SSCAN) for its Research Data Centre Network on the Central Campus in the Hamilton region, Ontario. This full‑time, contract‑limited position (24 months) offers a salary between $101,466 and $152,200 annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of data policies and governance frameworks for the SSCAN initiative.
- Collaborate with researchers, IT staff, and external partners to ensure data management practices meet regulatory and ethical standards.
- Design and maintain data documentation, metadata standards, and quality‑control processes.
- Provide expert guidance on data sharing agreements, privacy assessments, and compliance reporting.
- Train and mentor staff and graduate students on best practices in data stewardship and policy adherence.
- Monitor emerging trends in research data management and recommend strategic enhancements.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in Information Science, Library Science, Data Management, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing data policies, governance structures, or research data services.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA, PHIPA) and research data ethics.
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing policy documents and training materials.
Preferred Experience
- Experience within a university research environment or large research consortium.
- Familiarity with data repositories, FAIR principles, and open‑science initiatives.
- Certification in data governance or information management (e.g., DAMA, CIPP/IT).
