About This Position

Job Summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic in Sunset Park. This full‑time role offers a fixed salary of $63,513 per year, working with a leading waste‑management provider operating across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair and maintain diesel‑powered trucks, trailers and equipment used in waste collection and recycling operations.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake servicing and tire rotations.
  • Troubleshoot engine, transmission, hydraulic and electrical systems using diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in the company’s fleet management system.
  • Adhere to all health, safety and environmental policies, ensuring a safe workplace for yourself and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to schedule repairs and minimise vehicle downtime.

Required Skills & Experience

  • NZ Certificate in Diesel Technology (or equivalent) and a valid driver’s licence.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working on heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, emissions controls and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and ability to read technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
