Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Ctr is seeking a full‑time Accountant in New York City, New York. The role supports federally‑funded Head Start, Early Head Start, and NYC Department of Education program finances with a salary of $74,932.66.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries for Head Start, Early Head Start, and DOE grant accounts.
- Maintain accurate ledgers and reconcile bank statements, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for funding agencies.
- Assist the Finance Director with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Coordinate external audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
- Monitor grant expenditures, ensuring they align with award terms and reporting requirements.
- Support payroll processing and expense reimbursements for program staff.
- Develop and improve internal control procedures to safeguard assets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or early‑childhood education settings.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and grant compliance.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight reporting deadlines.
