Join a forward‑thinking geospatial team that leverages cutting‑edge drone and GIS technology to deliver precise land measurements for construction, environmental, and utility projects—all while working fully remote from your home office in California. As a Remote Surveyor, you’ll translate field data into actionable insights, ensuring projects stay on schedule, within budget, and compliant with regulatory standards.

About the Role

Our client is a nationally recognized engineering consultancy that has embraced a distributed workforce model to attract top talent across the United States. In this position you will support project managers and civil engineers by providing accurate survey data, preparing detailed reports, and coordinating with subcontractors who collect field measurements. Although you will not be onsite daily, you will be the critical link that transforms raw data into usable design inputs, helping to minimize rework and keep costly delays at bay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and quality‑check raw survey data collected via total stations, GPS receivers, UAV photogrammetry, and laser scanning.
  • Generate CAD drawings, contour maps, and 3D models using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and GIS platforms.
  • Perform boundary, topographic, and construction staking calculations in accordance with ALTA/NSPS and local jurisdictional standards.
  • Prepare clear, concise survey reports and coordinate with project stakeholders to clarify data requirements.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging surveying technologies, software updates, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures for remote data workflows and train junior team members.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience performing land or construction surveys.
  • Valid Surveyor‑In‑Training (SIT) or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is preferred but not required; candidates eligible for licensure are encouraged to apply.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, or equivalent CAD/GIS software.
  • Experience processing GNSS, total station, and UAV photogrammetry data.
  • Strong grasp of coordinate systems, datums, and map projections (NAD83, State Plane, UTM).
  • Familiarity with point cloud processing tools such as Leica Cyclone, Trimble RealWorks, or Autodesk ReCap.
  • Excellent written communication skills for producing survey reports and documentation.

Personal Attributes

  • Self‑motivated and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a remote setting.
  • Detail‑oriented with a commitment to delivering high‑accuracy results.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams via video conferencing, cloud‑based file sharing, and project management platforms (e.g., Asana, MS Teams).
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset and a proactive approach to identifying data inconsistencies.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $55,000 – $80,000 USD per year, commensurate with experience.
  • Full remote work flexibility – work from any location within California.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • 401(k) plan with company matching.
  • Paid time off, including holidays and sick leave.
  • Annual stipend for home office equipment and internet expenses.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including licensure support and access to industry conferences (virtual or travel‑based).
  • Collaborative culture that values innovation, continuous learning, and work‑life balance.
