Join a purpose-driven practice that expands access to compassionate, evidence-based recovery care from the comfort of your home. We empower clients to rebuild lives through personalized counseling, skill-building, and unwavering support, all delivered securely online. If you’re ready to turn empathy into measurable progress while maintaining a balanced, flexible lifestyle, this remote role is your next meaningful step.

About the Role

As a Remote Substance Abuse Counselor, you will guide individuals and families through complex recovery journeys with clarity, consistency, and respect. You’ll conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver one-on-one and group counseling sessions using HIPAA-compliant telehealth tools. By blending motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and trauma-informed care, you’ll help clients identify triggers, build coping skills, and establish sustainable routines that support long-term wellness.

Collaboration is central to this role. You’ll coordinate with medical providers, psychiatrists, and community resources to ensure seamless care transitions and holistic support. Documentation is thorough yet efficient, allowing you to spend more time engaging with clients and less time on administrative friction. Whether clients are navigating early sobriety or managing long-term recovery, your steady presence and clinical expertise will help them move forward with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care and Case Management

Perform initial intake assessments and ongoing evaluations to determine appropriate levels of care and treatment goals. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions that foster accountability, insight, and skill development. Monitor progress through validated tools, adjust interventions as needed, and maintain detailed, timely records that meet regulatory and accreditation standards.

Crisis Support and Safety Planning

Respond promptly to clinical concerns and safety risks with calm, decisive action. Develop and refine relapse prevention plans, coordinate higher levels of care when appropriate, and ensure clients and support networks understand clear steps to maintain stability during high-stress periods.

Collaboration and Community Connection

Build strong partnerships with prescribers, peer specialists, and local services to close gaps in care. Provide education to clients and families about medication-assisted treatment options, sober support networks, and lifestyle changes that reinforce recovery. Advocate for resources that remove barriers to housing, employment, and transportation as part of a comprehensive recovery plan.

Requirements

A master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a closely related field is required, along with active licensure or eligibility for state licensure where permitted. Candidates should hold credentials such as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, depending on jurisdiction. Prior experience providing substance use treatment in outpatient, intensive outpatient, or residential settings is strongly preferred.

Proficiency with telehealth platforms and electronic health records is essential, as is a deep understanding of evidence-based practices for addiction treatment. You’ll need excellent verbal and written communication skills, cultural humility, and the ability to establish trust quickly in a virtual environment. Strong organizational habits, ethical judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality round out the profile for sustained success in this remote role.

Benefits

We invest in your wellbeing so you can invest fully in your clients. Our benefits package includes comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, along with a retirement plan with employer contributions that grows with you. Generous paid time off and flexible scheduling allow you to recharge without sacrificing productivity or income.

Professional development is a priority. You’ll receive annual stipends for continuing education, supervision hours, and specialized certifications that expand your clinical toolkit. We also provide licensure reimbursement, malpractice coverage, and ongoing training in telehealth best practices and emerging treatment modalities. A wellness stipend and dedicated peer consultation groups help you sustain resilience and clarity throughout your career.

Salary Range

$55,000 – $75,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience, licensure, and caseload scope. Performance-based incentives and retention bonuses may apply for eligible counselors who meet quality and continuity benchmarks.
