ClearPath Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate, licensed or license-eligible Substance Abuse Counselor to support clients through secure telehealth sessions from anywhere in the United States. This 100% remote role is ideal for a behavioral health professional who wants to deliver evidence-based addiction counseling, relapse prevention support, and recovery planning while working from a private, HIPAA-compliant home office.

Salary Range

Estimated Salary Range: $45,000 – $65,000 USD per year, depending on licensure, experience, caseload, certifications, and state-specific counseling requirements.

About the Role

As a Remote Substance Abuse Counselor, you will provide confidential, client-centered counseling services to individuals navigating substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and recovery challenges. You will work with clients virtually using secure telehealth platforms while collaborating with care teams, families, and community resources to support long-term wellness and sustainable recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct individual and group telehealth counseling sessions for clients experiencing substance use and behavioral health concerns.
• Perform clinical assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and track client progress toward recovery goals.
• Use evidence-based approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care.
• Provide crisis support, coping strategies, harm reduction education, and referrals when additional services are needed.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record system.
• Coordinate care with medical providers, case managers, peer support specialists, and family members when appropriate.
• Follow HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, ethical standards, and all applicable state licensing requirements.

Requirements

• Active license or certification in substance abuse counseling, addiction counseling, mental health counseling, social work, psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, community counseling, or a related setting.
• Knowledge of addiction recovery models, relapse prevention, co-occurring disorders, and evidence-based counseling practices.
• Strong telehealth communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport in a virtual environment.
• Comfortable using secure video platforms, electronic health records, and digital documentation tools.
• Ability to work independently from a quiet, private, and distraction-free home office.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and access to a secure computer or laptop.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and licensed to practice in the state where clients are located.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience providing remote counseling or telehealth services.
• Certification in addiction counseling, such as CADC, LADC, LCDC, or state-equivalent credentials.
• Familiarity with recovery support services, case management, and community-based treatment resources.
• Experience working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or dual diagnosis concerns.
