We are seeking a seasoned Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced electrical systems for renewable energy projects. This fully remote position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists. Bring your expertise to a mission‑driven company that values innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence.

About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will own the end‑to‑end electrical design process for utility‑scale solar and wind farms, from concept through detailed engineering, procurement support, and construction oversight. You will work closely with project managers, civil engineers, and environmental specialists to ensure that electrical solutions meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. Your role will also involve mentoring junior engineers, reviewing deliverables, and driving continuous improvement in design methodologies to reduce cost and increase reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop single‑line diagrams, cable schedules, grounding designs, and protection coordination studies for renewable energy facilities, ensuring compliance with NEC and IEC standards.
  • Perform load flow, short‑circuit, and arc‑flash analyses using industry‑standard software such as ETAP, PSCAD, or SKM PowerTools, and document results for stakeholder review.
  • Coordinate with utility interconnection teams to secure grid connection agreements, navigate interconnection studies, and ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, and IEEE 1547 standards.
  • Prepare technical specifications, bid packages, and construction drawings for subcontractors and vendors, including detailed material take‑offs and cost estimates.
  • Support site inspections, testing, and commissioning activities to verify system performance, troubleshoot issues, and close out punch‑list items.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff, conduct design reviews, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing through regular technical lunch‑and‑learn sessions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, codes, and best practices in power electronics, grid integration, and energy storage, and recommend adoption where beneficial.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in electrical design for power generation, transmission, or renewable energy projects, with at least 3 years focused on utility‑scale solar or wind.
  • Proven expertise with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or equivalent power system analysis tools, including experience setting up libraries and running custom scripts.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 1547, IEC 61850, and relevant interconnection standards for distributed energy resources.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a remote work environment while maintaining high quality and schedule adherence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field such as Power Systems or Renewable Energy.
  • Experience with energy storage systems, microgrids, or hybrid renewable‑fossil projects, including familiarity with battery management systems and inverter controls.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/DMS platforms and renewable energy forecasting tools to support operational performance analysis.
  • Background in power electronics converters, inverters, and FACTS devices, with hands‑on experience in hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing.
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for scripting, automation of analysis tasks, and data visualization.
  • Prior experience mentoring or leading a team of engineers in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment.

Salary Range

$110,000 – $140,000 USD per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the scope of responsibilities.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work – no relocation required; work from any location within the United States.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans for employees and dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match to support long‑term financial goals.
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave policies.
  • Professional development stipend for certifications, conferences, workshops, and online training.
  • Employee assistance program and wellness resources, including mental health support.
  • Potential for annual performance bonuses and equity participation based on company performance.
