Join a forward-thinking organization as a Remote Safety Manager and spearhead comprehensive EHS strategies for a distributed workforce and multiple operational sites. This high-autonomy role empowers you to develop proactive safety programs, ensure OSHA compliance, and drive incident rates to zero—all from the flexibility of your home office.

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Remote Safety Manager to take ownership of our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management system across the United States. This is not a “paperwork only” position; you will be the strategic architect of our safety culture, translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable, daily habits for field crews, warehouse teams, and corporate staff alike. You will leverage technology—drones for site inspections, mobile apps for near-miss reporting, and data analytics dashboards—to maintain visibility and influence without being physically present at every location.

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, you will lead incident investigations, manage workers’ compensation claims to reduce MOD rates, and design training curriculums that actually engage employees. The ideal candidate thrives in a remote-first environment, possesses exceptional written and verbal communication skills for virtual toolbox talks, and has a proven track record of reducing TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) in multi-site organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive corporate EHS strategy aligned with OSHA 1910/1926 standards, EPA regulations, and ISO 45001 frameworks.
  • Conduct virtual and periodic on-site audits (travel ~15%) to verify compliance, ergonomics, PPE adherence, and emergency action plans.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for all recordable incidents, near misses, and vehicle accidents using TapRooT or 5-Why methodologies.
  • Manage the Workers’ Compensation program: liaise with carriers, oversee return-to-work programs, and negotiate claims to optimize Experience Modification Rate (EMR).
  • Design and deliver engaging virtual safety training modules (Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication) via LMS platforms.
  • Chair the monthly Virtual Safety Committee meeting, tracking KPIs, corrective actions, and leading indicators (observations, inspections, training completion).
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs, Tier II reporting, and manage SDS libraries through cloud-based chemical management software.
  • Mentor site-based Safety Coordinators and act as the primary liaison for regulatory agency inspections (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Requirements & Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications: CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) strongly preferred; CHST or OHST accepted with extensive experience.
  • Experience: 7+ years progressive EHS management experience, with a minimum of 3 years managing safety for a multi-state, remote, or distributed workforce (construction, manufacturing, logistics, or energy sectors).
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert in MS Office Suite, G-Suite, and EHS software platforms (Intelex, VelocityEHS, Cority, or similar). Advanced Excel skills for data trending required.
  • Regulatory Mastery: Deep working knowledge of OSHA General Industry & Construction standards, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and EPA Risk Management Plans (RMP).
  • Remote Readiness: Proven ability to influence culture and enforce accountability without daily physical presence. High-speed internet and dedicated home office setup mandatory.

Nice-to-Haves

  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or SMS (Safety Management Specialist) designation.
  • Experience with Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program implementation.
  • Background in Process Safety Management (PSM) for covered chemical processes.
  • Fluent in Spanish (written/verbal) for bilingual workforce communication.

Salary Range & Compensation

Estimated Annual Base Salary: $105,000 – $135,000 USD/year

Final offer is determined by credentials (CSP/CIH premium), years of relevant multi-site experience, and geographic differential. This range reflects the high level of autonomy and strategic ownership required for this fully remote leadership role. Includes annual performance bonus target of 10-15% based on leading/lagging indicator improvements.

Benefits & Perks (Remote-First Focus)

  • Total Flexibility: 100% Work From Home; core hours collaboration (10 AM – 3 PM EST) with async autonomy.
  • Health & Wellness: Premium Medical, Dental, Vision (100% employer-paid employee premiums); HSA/FSA matching; Teladoc access.
  • Financial Security: 401(k) with 5% company match (immediate vesting); Life/AD&D Insurance; Long-Term Disability.
  • Home Office Stipend: $2,500 annual allowance for ergonomic furniture, monitors, and high-speed internet reimbursement.
  • Professional Development: $3,000/year for conferences (NSC, ASSP), certification maintenance fees, and advanced coursework.
  • Travel & Gear: Company credit card for required site visits (~15% travel); branded PPE and tech kit (laptop, phone, hotspot) provided.
  • Time Off: Unlimited PTO policy (minimum 3 weeks encouraged), 11 paid holidays, and “Recharge Fridays” (quarterly half-days).
