About the Role

As a Remote Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical care, you will provide expert nursing support to patients recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions, and navigating acute illnesses. Leveraging secure video conferencing, electronic health records, and remote vital‑sign devices, you will assess patient status, coordinate care plans, educate patients and families, and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams—all from your home office. Your clinical judgment will help reduce readmissions, improve outcomes, and ensure continuity of care across the continuum.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive virtual assessments of medical/surgical patients, documenting findings in EHR systems.
• Develop and update individualized care plans based on physician orders and patient progress.
• Provide patient education on medication management, wound care, activity restrictions, and signs of complications.
• Monitor remote patient‑generated health data (e.g., blood pressure, oxygen saturation, glucose) and intervene when parameters fall outside safe ranges.
• Facilitate communication between patients, families, primary care providers, and specialists to ensure seamless transitions of care.
• Participate in virtual multidisciplinary rounds, case reviews, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, state nursing regulations, and organizational policies.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of residence (compact license preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of recent medical/surgical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
• Proficiency with telehealth platforms, electronic medical records (Epic, Cerner, or similar), and remote monitoring tools.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills suited for a virtual environment.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple patient cases.
• BSN preferred; ADN with equivalent experience considered.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS or CCRN certification a plus.

Salary Range

Based on industry standards for remote medical/surgical RN positions, the estimated annual compensation is $68,000 – $88,000 USD, commensurate with experience, certifications, and geographic cost‑of‑living adjustments.
