Join a fully remote clinical team supporting adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and life transitions while building meaningful client relationships and advancing your counseling career.

About the Role

As a 100% Remote Mental Health Counselor, you will deliver individual therapy through secure telehealth sessions, develop person-centered treatment plans, and help clients navigate emotional and behavioral challenges. This position is designed for a licensed professional who values autonomy, clinical excellence, and flexible work from home.

You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team, maintain accurate and timely electronic health records, monitor client progress, and contribute to a supportive environment where both clients and clinicians can thrive. The estimated compensation for this role is $52,000–$78,000 USD per year, depending on licensure, clinical experience, caseload, certifications, and the state of residence. Some candidates with specialized training or advanced credentials may qualify for higher compensation. This estimate reflects industry standards for fully remote mental health counselors and does not include potential performance-based incentives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential individual therapy to adult clients through secure video-based telehealth services.
  • Assess client needs, establish measurable treatment goals, and adapt interventions as progress evolves.
  • Create and maintain compliant clinical documentation, treatment plans, progress notes, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and healthcare professionals while respecting privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, substance-use challenges, and major life transitions.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, continuing education, quality reviews, and team consultations.
  • Maintain an organized, distraction-free workspace and follow all Northstar Behavioral Health remote-work policies.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related field.
  • Active, unrestricted professional license such as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LPCC, or equivalent, depending on the state.
  • Authorization to practice remotely in the state or states where assigned clients are located.
  • At least two years of post-licensure clinical experience; additional telehealth experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches, crisis response, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong communication, documentation, assessment, and boundary-setting skills.
  • Reliable high-speed internet, a quiet private workspace, and a computer that meets clinical security requirements.
