Are you a creative problem‑solver with a passion for turning concepts into reliable, manufacturable products? Our fast‑growing engineering firm is seeking a talented Mechanical Designer who thrives in a fully remote environment. Bring your CAD expertise, attention to detail, and collaborative spirit to projects that impact industries from renewable energy to consumer electronics.

Salary Range

$55,000 – $75,000 USD per year (based on experience, location, and skill set). We also offer performance bonuses and regular salary reviews.

About the Role

As a Remote Mechanical Designer, you will be the backbone of our product development pipeline. Working closely with senior engineers, project managers, and cross‑functional teams, you will create 3‑D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs that translate design intent into production‑ready assets. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:

  • Developing 3‑D solid models using SolidWorks, Inventor, or Fusion 360.
  • Producing 2‑D engineering drawings with GD&T annotations for manufacturing.
  • Collaborating virtually with engineers to perform FEA, tolerance stack‑up, and design for manufacturability (DFM) analyses.
  • Iterating designs based on prototype testing, supplier feedback, and cost‑optimization goals.
  • Maintaining design data in PLM systems and ensuring version control.
  • Participating in virtual design reviews, sprint stand‑ups, and agile planning sessions.

Key Requirements

Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (certified preferred) or comparable CAD tools.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, material selection, and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal, etc.).
  • Experience with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) is a plus.
  • Comfort with PLM/PDMS systems such as Teamcenter or Onshape.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication – essential for remote collaboration.
  • Self‑starter attitude with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving mindset and willingness to iterate quickly based on feedback.
  • Ability to work across time zones; core hours are 9 am–3 pm EST.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or Certified Professional Engineer (PE) preferred but not required.

Why This Remote Position Stands Out

  • Fully remote setup: No commute, flexible schedule, and a home‑office stipend.
  • Cutting‑edge projects: Work on sustainable energy systems, IoT devices, and next‑gen robotics.
  • Professional growth: Access to online training platforms, mentorship from senior engineers, and a clear career ladder toward Senior Designer or Lead Engineer.
  • Collaborative culture: Weekly virtual coffee chats, quarterly in‑person meet‑ups (travel expenses covered), and a supportive Slack community.

Benefits & Perks

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (company‑paid premiums).
  • 401(k) with up to 5% employer match.
  • Generous paid time off – 20 vacation days + company holidays.
  • Home‑office allowance ($1,200 one‑time) and monthly internet stipend.
  • Professional development budget of $1,500 per year.
  • Performance‑based bonuses and annual salary reviews.

How to Stand Out

We receive many applications, so make yours memorable:

  • Attach a portfolio showcasing at least three complex assemblies you designed, highlighting the design challenge, your solution, and the final outcome.
  • Include a brief video (60‑seconds max) introducing yourself and explaining why remote work fuels your creativity.
  • Reference any experience with agile or scrum methodologies in a design context.
