Are you a creative problem‑solver with a passion for turning concepts into precision‑engineered parts? Our client, a fast‑growing product development studio, is seeking a Remote Mechanical Designer to craft 3D models, detailed drawings, and prototype solutions from the comfort of your home office. If you thrive in a collaborative, fully virtual environment and love delivering high‑quality designs on tight timelines, keep reading.

Salary Range

USD $55,000 – $75,000 per year (commensurate with experience, certifications, and proven design expertise).

About the Role

As a Remote Mechanical Designer, you will be the technical backbone of our product pipeline. Working closely with senior engineers, project managers, and cross‑functional teams, you’ll translate customer requirements into detailed 3D CAD models, BOMs, and manufacturing‑ready drawings. The position is 100% remote, offering flexible hours while maintaining core collaboration windows for real‑time design reviews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and optimize 3D models using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or CATIA.
  • Develop detailed 2‑D drawings, GD&T annotations, and tolerance analyses for production.
  • Perform design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) assessments.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
  • Participate in virtual design reviews, provide constructive feedback, and iterate quickly based on stakeholder input.
  • Maintain design documentation in PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill).
  • Support prototype build‑outs, including 3D‑print preparation, CNC machining setups, and vendor liaison.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably in consumer products, medical devices, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (Advanced), with exposure to Inventor or CATIA considered a plus.
  • Strong grasp of GD&T, material selection, and manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal, additive manufacturing).
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Effective communication skills (written & video) for clear documentation and virtual teamwork.
  • Self‑discipline to meet deadlines without direct supervision; reliable high‑speed internet connection.

Preferred Extras

  • Professional certifications such as CSWP (Certified SolidWorks Professional) or GD&T certification.
  • Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) for structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods and vendor management.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ISO 9001, ASME Y14.5).

Benefits & Perks

  • Fully remote work – no commute, no relocation costs.
  • Flexible schedule with core collaboration hours (UTC‑5 to UTC‑8).
  • Competitive salary with annual performance bonuses.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage for you and dependents.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Professional development stipend for courses, certifications, or conferences.
  • Generous paid time off (vacation, sick, and mental‑health days).
  • State‑of‑the‑art home office allowance (ergonomic chair, monitor, and accessories).

Why This Remote Position Stands Out

Our client invests heavily in virtual collaboration tools—Miro, Mural, and real‑time CAD sharing—to make distance invisible. You’ll receive a dedicated onboarding mentor, regular virtual coffee chats, and quarterly in‑person meet‑ups (optional) at major tech hubs. The culture emphasizes autonomy, continuous learning, and recognition of individual contributions.

How to Apply

Ready to design the future from your home office? Submit your résumé, a portfolio showcasing at least three complex mechanical assemblies, and a brief cover letter highlighting your remote‑work experience. Successful candidates will be invited to a virtual design challenge and a video interview with the engineering leadership team.
