About the Role

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Remote Mechanical Designer to join our innovative product development team. In this role, you will be the architectural backbone of our new product lines, transforming abstract ideas and engineering specifications into precise, manufacturable 3D models and 2D production drawings. You will collaborate daily with mechanical engineers, product managers, and prototyping specialists in a dynamic, asynchronous environment to solve complex design challenges for next-generation sustainable hardware.

Your work will directly impact our mission to reduce environmental impact through intelligent design. You’ll take ownership of design files from initial concept sketches through to final release for manufacturing, ensuring all designs meet stringent quality, tolerance, and sustainability criteria. Key Responsibilities

• Develop complete 3D CAD models (SolidWorks preferred) and detailed 2D production drawings for new product development and legacy part revisions.
• Perform design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) analyses to optimize parts for cost-effective production methods like injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing.
• Create and maintain comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part libraries within our PDM/PLM system.
• Generate photorealistic renderings and technical documentation for marketing, patent applications, and internal reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams via daily stand-ups, design review meetings, and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana).
• Support prototyping efforts by preparing files for rapid prototyping and working with vendors to resolve fabrication queries.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Core Competencies

• Proficiency in Professional CAD Software: Expert-level experience with SolidWorks is required; proficiency in AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or CATIA is a plus.
• Technical Documentation: Ability to create clear, standard-compliant engineering drawings with full geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Materials & Processes Knowledge: Solid understanding of common engineering materials (plastics, metals, composites) and manufacturing processes.
• Detail-Oriented Mindset: Meticulous attention to design intent, tolerances, and file management in a remote setting.

Experience & Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of professional experience as a Mechanical Designer, Product Designer, or similar role, with a portfolio showcasing successful product designs from concept to production.
• Experience designing for consumer products, sustainable technology, or industrial hardware is highly advantageous.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a remote team environment.
