About the Role

As a Remote Fire Engineer, you will own the strategy, calculations, and documentation that keep people and assets safe in a perimeter-free world. From high-occupancy flex offices to automated fulfillment centers, you’ll assess fire dynamics, specify suppression and detection packages, and shepherd projects through plan review, permitting, and commissioning. Your deliverables will be precise, code-compliant, and built for rapid iteration in fast-moving environments.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform fire risk assessments and egress modeling for distributed facilities and retrofit campuses.
• Develop fire protection strategies that align with NFPA, IBC, and local amendments while clarifying remote review paths.
• Produce hydraulic calculations, shop drawings, and sequence of operations for sprinkler, standpipe, and clean-agent systems.
• Coordinate smoke control, kitchen hood suppression, and special hazard solutions with mechanical and electrical peers.
• Lead plan review and permitting support, translating authority feedback into actionable design updates.
• Run fire modeling scenarios to optimize detection spacing, exit capacity, and tenability targets.
• Maintain a living knowledge base of jurisdictional variances and emerging technologies like IoT detection and cloud-based fire command.
• Document commissioning test plans and support virtual inspections with on-site partners.

Requirements

We need a technically rigorous Fire Engineer who thrives in remote workflows, communicates with clarity, and elevates standards without micromanagement.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Professional Engineer license or EIT/FE status with a clear path to licensure in target states.
• 3+ years of fire protection design, plan review, or code consulting in commercial, industrial, or institutional projects.
• Proficiency with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS, PIPE-FLO) and fire modeling tools (e.g., FDS, Pathfinder).
• Strong command of NFPA 13, 72, 101, 14 and familiarity with IBC/IFC sections governing egress and fire-resistance.
• Experience producing construction documents and coordinating with trades in BIM or CAD environments.
• Excellent written communication for remote collaboration, including markups, code memos, and compliance narratives.
