Join a forward-thinking fire protection engineering firm as a fully remote Fire Engineer and play a critical role in safeguarding lives, buildings, and communities — all from the comfort of your home office. We’re looking for a licensed, detail-driven fire protection professional who thrives on solving complex fire safety challenges using cutting-edge simulation software, code analysis, and collaborative virtual tools. If you’re passionate about fire dynamics, sprinkler system design, and life safety engineering, this remote opportunity offers competitive pay, flexible scheduling, and long-term career growth.

About the Role

As a Remote Fire Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and reviewing fire protection systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects across the United States. You’ll collaborate with architects, structural engineers, project managers, and code officials through virtual platforms to ensure every project meets NFPA codes, local building codes, and industry best practices. This is a fully work-from-home position with no relocation required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and model fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and fire suppression systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation software.
  • Perform fire risk assessments, fire modeling, and egress analysis for complex building projects.
  • Review project plans and specifications to ensure full compliance with NFPA 13, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and local fire codes.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including architects, mechanical engineers, and contractors through virtual meetings and project management tools.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, submittals, and permit documentation.
  • Provide code consulting and alternative performance-based design solutions for challenging projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal training programs and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection or relevant discipline is strongly preferred.
  • NFPA certifications, NICET Level III or above, or Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation is a major plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 4–7 years of professional experience in fire protection engineering, fire consulting, or fire safety design.
  • Demonstrated experience with hydraulic calculations, fire alarm design, and fire sprinkler layout using industry-standard software.
  • Proven track record of working with NFPA codes and international building code (IBC) requirements.
  • Experience in a remote or hybrid work environment is highly valued.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, FHC, HASS, Hydratec, or similar fire engineering software.
  • Strong command of fire dynamics, smoke control, fire suppression principles, and egress modeling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client presentations and code official interactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Salary Range

Estimated Annual Salary: $72,000 – $105,000 USD/year

Actual compensation is based on experience, certifications (PE, NICET, CFPS), and geographic cost-of-living adjustments. Senior-level candidates with a PE license and 7+ years of experience may earn toward the upper end of the range or beyond. Performance-based bonuses and annual salary reviews are part of the compensation structure.
