As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you’ll ensure the smooth operation of critical server hardware across our distributed infrastructure, performing installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting from anywhere in the United States. This role offers a blend of hands‑on technical work and remote collaboration, letting you contribute to high‑availability systems while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote position.

About the Role

Our data center operations span multiple regions, supporting cloud services, enterprise applications, and mission‑critical workloads. In this position you will act as the first line of defense for hardware health, coordinating with network engineers, system administrators, and vendor partners to maintain optimal performance and uptime. Although the work is performed remotely, you will leverage advanced out‑of‑band management tools, IPMI/iDRAC consoles, and on‑site smart‑hand partners to execute physical tasks when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform remote hardware installations, upgrades, and decommissions using KVM-over-IP, IPMI, and vendor‑specific management interfaces.
  • Diagnose and resolve server, storage, and networking issues, escalating to appropriate teams when on‑site intervention is needed.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance, firmware updates, and health checks to ensure compliance with SLAs.
  • Maintain accurate asset records in CMDB and ticketing systems, documenting all actions taken.
  • Collaborate with facility vendors to coordinate physical access, power cycling, and hardware replacement.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation for after‑hours emergencies, providing timely response and resolution.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, helping refine remote hands procedures and automation scripts.

Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of server architecture (x86, ARM), RAID configurations, and storage technologies (SAN, NAS, NVMe).
  • Proficiency with out‑of‑band management tools: iDRAC, iLO, IPMI, and remote KVM solutions.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware faults, including POST failures, memory errors, and power supply issues.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows Server environments for basic OS‑level validation.
  • Knowledge of data center power and cooling fundamentals, including PDU and UPS operation.
  • Basic networking knowledge (VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP) to validate connectivity after hardware changes.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience as a data center technician, field service engineer, or similar role.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, remote setting.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with vendors, internal teams, and customers.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally for on‑site tasks (less than 10% of time).
  • CompTIA Server+, A+, or equivalent certification preferred but not required.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $48,000 – $68,000 USD per year (based on experience and location).
  • Fully remote work arrangement – work from anywhere in the United States.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Generous paid time off and company holidays.
  • Annual professional development stipend for certifications and training.
  • Employee assistance program and wellness resources.
  • Opportunity to work with cutting‑edge hardware in a fast‑growing cloud provider.

Salary Range

Based on industry standards for remote data center technician roles, the expected compensation for this position falls between $48,000 and $68,000 USD annually. The final offer will reflect your specific experience, certifications, and the complexity of the infrastructure you’ll support.
