About the Role

As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you will be the first line of defense in maintaining high‑availability environments for servers, storage arrays, and networking equipment. This position reports to the Remote Operations Manager and collaborates with a distributed team of engineers, developers, and system administrators.

Key Responsibilities

Day‑to‑Day Operations

• Monitor real‑time alerts and logs from remote monitoring tools, diagnosing hardware and software issues before they impact users.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as firmware updates, patch management, and configuration changes on rack‑mount servers, SAN/NAS devices, and network switches.
• Execute incident response procedures, including root‑cause analysis, ticket creation, and escalation to senior engineers when needed.
• Support data center migrations, virtualization rollouts, and disaster recovery drills using remote desktop and VPN access.
• Document procedures, update knowledge‑base articles, and share best practices with the broader operations team.

Project & Improvement Work

• Assist with the deployment of new hardware platforms and cloud integrations, ensuring proper cabling, power, and network connectivity.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives by identifying bottlenecks, proposing automation opportunities, and implementing monitoring enhancements.
• Participate in quarterly security audits, performing vulnerability scans and verifying compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience).
• 3–5 years of experience in a data center or server‑room environment, preferably with remote monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG).
• Strong knowledge of server hardware (Dell, HP, Cisco), storage solutions (NetApp, Hitachi), and networking (Cisco IOS, Juniper).
• Proficient with virtualization platforms such as VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper‑V, or KVM.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to work under pressure during outage events.
