Join a world-class engineering team managing high-availability server environments from the comfort of your home. We are seeking a detail-oriented Datacenter Technician to oversee remote monitoring, hardware orchestration, and critical infrastructure stability for our expanding Texas-based cloud network.
About the Role
As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you will serve as the digital heartbeat of our infrastructure. While the physical servers reside in our state-of-the-art facilities, your role is the critical bridge between physical hardware and virtual performance. You won’t be racking servers manually; instead, you will utilize advanced remote management tools, IPMI, and KVM-over-IP technologies to diagnose hardware failures, coordinate with on-site hands-and-eyes teams, and ensure 99.99% uptime.
This is a high-impact position designed for a technical expert who thrives on solving complex connectivity issues and optimizing server health. You will be responsible for the lifecycle management of our hardware, from provisioning new nodes via automated scripts to decommissioning legacy systems, all while maintaining strict security protocols and operational efficiency.
Salary Range
$65,000 – $95,000 USD/year (Depending on experience and certifications)
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Monitoring & Maintenance
- Monitor system health alerts using Zabbix, Prometheus, or SolarWinds to proactively identify hardware degradation.
- Coordinate remote power cycles, BIOS updates, and firmware patches across a distributed fleet of servers.
- Manage remote console access to troubleshoot OS boot issues and network configuration errors.
Vendor & On-Site Coordination
- Act as the primary point of contact for on-site technicians, providing precise instructions for physical component replacements (RAM, HDD, NICs).
- Audit rack layouts and cable management via remote documentation tools to ensure optimal airflow and efficiency.
- Manage hardware RMA processes and track equipment shipments to ensure minimal downtime during replacements.
Network & Security Oversight
- Collaborate with Network Engineers to troubleshoot VLAN tagging and port configurations.
- Ensure all remote access points adhere to strict SOC2 and ISO 27001 security compliance standards.
- Document all incidents and resolutions in the internal knowledge base to streamline future troubleshooting.
Requirements
Technical Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in datacenter operations, systems administration, or a similar technical role.
- Tooling: Proficiency with remote management tools (iDRAC, ILO, IPMI) and Linux command-line interfaces.
- Networking: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and the OSI model.
- Hardware Knowledge: Deep familiarity with enterprise-grade hardware (Dell PowerEdge, HP ProLiant, or Supermicro).
Soft Skills & Logistics
- Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical instructions to on-site staff clearly and concisely.
- Analytical Thinking: A methodical approach to troubleshooting with a “root cause” mindset.
- Environment: A dedicated home office setup with high-speed, reliable internet connectivity.
Why Join Our Team?
Unmatched Flexibility
We believe that top talent shouldn’t be tethered to a cold server room. This 100% remote position allows you to manage enterprise-scale infrastructure from your own home, providing a perfect balance between professional growth and personal well-being.
Growth & Development
We don’t just offer a job; we offer a career path. You will have access to a generous professional development budget to earn certifications in AWS, Azure, or VMware, ensuring your skills stay at the cutting edge of the industry.
Comprehensive Benefits
- Full health, dental, and vision insurance packages.
- 401(k) matching to secure your financial future.
- Home office stipend to ensure you have the best ergonomic gear and hardware.
- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and flexible holiday scheduling.
Who You Are
You are a tech enthusiast who loves the “puzzle” of a system crash and the satisfaction of a perfectly optimized network. You are someone who takes pride in precision and understands that in the world of cloud computing, every second of downtime is a critical event. If you are a proactive problem-solver who wants to move away from the physical noise of the datacenter and into a strategic remote role, this is your next move.
