Join a forward‑thinking engineering firm that empowers you to oversee multi‑million‑dollar commissioning programs from the comfort of your home office. This role blends technical leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and strategic planning to deliver reliable, high‑performance energy assets on schedule and within budget.
About the Role
As a Remote Commissioning Manager, you will own the end‑to‑end commissioning lifecycle for utility‑scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects across the United States. You will develop commissioning plans, coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, and internal engineering teams, and ensure that all systems meet performance guarantees before commercial operation. Your expertise will drive risk mitigation, quality assurance, and seamless hand‑over to operations and maintenance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Strategy & Planning
Create detailed commissioning schedules, test procedures, and acceptance criteria aligned with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices (IEEE, IEC, NERC).
Stakeholder Coordination
Lead weekly coordination calls with project managers, field engineers, and subcontractors; resolve technical issues in real time; and maintain a single source of truth for commissioning documentation in the cloud‑based project management platform.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Supervise factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and performance verification testing; review test reports; and approve punch‑list closure before energization.
Risk Management & Reporting
Identify commissioning risks early, develop mitigation plans, and present concise status dashboards to senior leadership and clients.
Requirements
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering; PE license or progress toward licensure is a strong plus. Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or similar credential preferred.
Experience
Minimum 8 years of commissioning experience, with at least 4 years managing utility‑scale renewable projects (>50 MW). Proven track record of leading remote teams and delivering projects on time.
Technical Skills
Deep knowledge of SCADA, DCS, protection relay settings, power system studies (ETAP, PSCAD), and NEC/IEEE standards. Proficiency with Procore, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Teams for virtual collaboration.
Salary Range
$110,000 – $150,000 USD/year (commensurate with experience, certifications, and project complexity).
Benefits & Perks
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with company match; generous PTO and paid holidays; annual professional development stipend ($3,000); home‑office equipment allowance ($2,500); flexible work hours with core collaboration windows; and quarterly virtual team‑building events.
Company Culture & Remote Work Philosophy
Our culture is built on trust, transparency, and results‑oriented autonomy. We invest heavily in digital collaboration tools, regular virtual “office hours” with leadership, and a mentorship program that pairs senior engineers with emerging talent. Employees are encouraged to shape processes, propose innovations, and maintain a healthy work‑life integration regardless of time zone.
How to Succeed in This Role
Success hinges on proactive communication, meticulous documentation, and the ability to translate complex technical data into clear action items for diverse stakeholders. Candidates who thrive on solving interdisciplinary challenges, embrace continuous learning, and demonstrate leadership in a distributed environment will excel and grow into senior director‑level positions within the organization.
