Join a forward‑thinking engineering firm that delivers turnkey commissioning solutions for renewable power, data centers, and industrial facilities—all from the comfort of your home office. We’re seeking a seasoned Commissioning Manager to orchestrate complex start‑up programs, mentor multidisciplinary teams, and ensure every project hits performance targets on schedule and on budget.

About the Role

As a Remote Commissioning Manager, you will own the end‑to‑end commissioning lifecycle for projects ranging from 10 MW solar farms to 100 MW battery storage installations. You’ll collaborate with design engineers, construction managers, and client stakeholders through virtual coordination platforms, while occasionally traveling to site for critical hand‑over milestones. Your expertise will directly influence system reliability, regulatory compliance, and the overall success of our clean‑energy portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Planning & Strategy

  • Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria aligned with IEEE, NEC, and local utility standards.
  • Define scope, schedule, and resource allocation for pre‑commissioning, functional testing, and performance verification phases.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead a distributed team of commissioning engineers, field technicians, and subcontractors, providing clear direction via daily stand‑ups and weekly progress reviews.
  • Mentor junior staff, conduct technical reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Execution & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and integrated system testing, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Manage non‑conformance reports, root‑cause analyses, and corrective actions to closure.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for owners, EPC contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Deliver clear, concise commissioning documentation and turnover packages that satisfy warranty and performance guarantees.

Requirements

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure strongly preferred.
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or ASHRAE Commissioning Process Provider (CPP) a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of commissioning experience, with at least 4 years in a managerial capacity on utility‑scale renewable or industrial projects.
  • Proven track record managing remote teams and coordinating multi‑site activities across time zones.
  • Deep familiarity with SCADA, DCS, PLC programming, and power system protection schemes.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in commissioning software (e.g., CxAlloy, Procore, Bluebeam) and project management tools (MS Project, Primavera P6).
  • Strong grasp of NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 1741, and relevant IEC standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to translate complex technical data into actionable insights for non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid microgrid commissioning.
  • Background in offshore wind or hydrogen production facilities.
  • Fluent in Spanish or French for international project coordination.

Salary Range

$115,000 – $145,000 USD per year, commensurate with experience, certifications, and geographic cost‑of‑living adjustments. This range reflects market data for senior commissioning leadership roles in the U.S. renewable energy sector.

Benefits

  • Full‑time remote work with a generous home‑office stipend ($2,500 annually).
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents.
  • 401(k) with 5 % company match and immediate vesting.
  • Professional development budget ($3,000/year) for conferences, certifications, and advanced coursework.
  • Paid time off: 15 days vacation, 10 holidays, and 5 personal wellness days.
  • Travel reimbursement for site visits (typically 2–4 trips per year).

Company Culture

Our organization thrives on transparency, data‑driven decision‑making, and a shared commitment to decarbonizing the grid. We celebrate diverse perspectives, encourage experimentation, and reward outcomes over hours logged. Weekly virtual “innovation hours” give every team member a platform to pitch process improvements, new tools, or lessons learned from recent projects.

How to Succeed in This Role

  • Embrace asynchronous communication: document decisions, test results, and action items in the shared repository within 24 hours.
  • Leverage analytics dashboards to spot trends early—whether it’s a recurring protection relay mis‑coordination or a supply‑chain delay on critical switchgear.
  • Build trust with field crews by scheduling brief, focused video walk‑throughs before each major test event.
  • Continuously refine commissioning checklists based on post‑project retrospectives to raise the bar for the next engagement.
