This remote Commissioning Manager position offers a unique opportunity to lead system start-up and commissioning for elite engineering projects from the comfort of your home office. Ideal for seasoned professionals seeking flexibility without compromising on career growth or project impact.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Commissioning Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and handover of building system commissioning for large-scale commercial and industrial developments. In this fully remote role, you will serve as the primary technical liaison between design teams, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring all systems meet performance criteria, energy efficiency targets, and regulatory standards before project closeout. The position demands a proactive mindset, strong documentation skills, and the ability to drive quality assurance across distributed project teams. You will leverage advanced commissioning methodologies, digital twins, and remote monitoring tools to validate system functionality, identify optimization opportunities, and deliver comprehensive commissioning reports that stand up to rigorous audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning plans tailored to project scope, schedule, and client objectives.
  • Lead systematic functional testing, performance verification, and troubleshooting of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate remote reviews of as-built documentation, test data, and commissioning schedules with cross-functional teams across multiple time zones.
  • Prepare and present commissioning executive summaries and final reports to senior management and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior commissioning engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the commissioning workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes (ASHRAE, SMACNA, IECC), client specifications, and sustainability certifications (LEED, BREEAM).

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of hands-on commissioning experience on projects valued at $10M+.
  • Proven track record of managing commissioning phases from design through occupancy for complex building types (healthcare, data centers, high-rise residential, or industrial facilities).
  • Expertise with commissioning software suites (e.g., Cayenta, Retrotec, or specialized BIM 360 tools) and remote collaboration platforms.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize technical data for non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a distributed work environment and manage multiple concurrent priorities.

Preferred Attributes

  • LEED AP or other sustainability accreditation.
  • Experience with energy modeling and performance-based commissioning.
  • Published articles, conference presentations, or thought-leadership contributions in the commissioning or building performance space.
