About the Role

As a Background Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth background screenings on job candidates, tenants, vendors, and other individuals as required by our clients. You will analyze criminal records, verify employment history, confirm educational credentials, check professional licenses, and perform reference interviews. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely while making a significant impact on helping organizations make informed hiring and business decisions. You will utilize cutting-edge investigation software and databases to compile comprehensive reports that meet strict compliance standards and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive background investigations including criminal record searches, employment verification, education verification, and professional license validation
• Perform reference interviews and gather information from previous employers, educational institutions, and personal references
• Analyze and interpret complex data from various sources including court records, databases, and public records
• Prepare detailed written reports documenting findings and providing clear, actionable insights for clients
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to FCRA compliance standards throughout all investigations
• Collaborate with client account managers to ensure investigation scope aligns with client needs and legal requirements
• Meet productivity targets while maintaining the highest quality standards in all deliverables

Requirements

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent written communication abilities. A background in law enforcement, private investigation, or a related field is highly preferred. You must be able to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining professional communication with clients and team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 2 years of experience in background screening, private investigation, law enforcement, or related investigative field
• Strong knowledge of FCRA regulations and compliance requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using online investigation databases and tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise reports
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and dedicated workspace
• Flexible schedule to accommodate various client time zones and urgent requests

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional investigator license or certification (PII, PCI, or similar)
• Experience with background screening platforms such as HireRight, Sterling, or First Advantage
• Familiarity with court record research and public records databases

Salary Range

$45,000 – $65,000 USD/year
