Remote Mechanical Designer – Open to US-Based Candidates – Design the Future of Smart Manufacturing

Join DesignPro Engineering as a fully remote Mechanical Designer and bring next-gen automation, consumer products, and industrial systems to life. We are seeking a detail-oriented designer who thrives on creating precision 3D models, detailed drawings, and manufacturing-ready files — all from the comfort of your home office.

About the Role

DesignPro Engineering is a fast-growing product development firm delivering turnkey mechanical design solutions to Fortune 500 companies and innovative startups. In this fully remote role, you will own the mechanical design process from concept through production release. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing partners to create products that are both beautiful and buildable.

Your work will span multiple industries including medical devices, robotics, consumer electronics, and renewable energy systems. You will use industry-leading CAD tools to produce detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, tolerance analyses, and BOMs (bills of materials). This role is ideal for a self-motivated designer who wants to cut the commute and focus on delivering high-quality designs with measurable impact.

What Makes This Remote Role Unique

  • Work 100% remotely — no office visits required; we provide the hardware and software you need.
  • Flexible schedule with core overlap hours (10 AM – 3 PM ET) for team collaboration.
  • Direct impact on real products that ship to customers globally.
  • Access to an elite community of senior engineers and designers for mentorship and knowledge sharing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and assembly documentation using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to iterate on designs based on feedback from prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Manage your own project timelines and communicate progress clearly in daily stand-ups and weekly design reviews.
  • Stay current with industry standards (ASME Y14.5, ISO) and best practices in mechanical design.

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience as a Mechanical Designer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred) or Autodesk Inventor, including advanced modeling, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) across plastics, sheet metal, machining, and 3D printing.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and requirements documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a remote work environment.
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated workspace.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Arena, or TeamCenter).
  • FEA (Finite Element Analysis) exposure using Simulation or Ansys.
  • Experience in medical device design (ISO 13485) or aerospace (AS9100).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
  • Experience using remote collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and Miro.

Salary Range

$65,000 – $95,000 USD per year

This range is based on industry standards for a remote Mechanical Designer role in the United States. Final offer is commensurate with experience, skills, and geographical location. We benchmark salaries annually to ensure competitive compensation.

Benefits & Perks

  • 100% remote work — we ship you a laptop, monitor, and any additional equipment you need.
  • Flexible PTO policy — take the time you need, no set limit.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance with 80% premium coverage for you and your dependents.
  • 401(k) matching up to 4% of your salary.
  • Annual home-office stipend of $1,500 to upgrade your workspace.
  • Quarterly team offsites (optional attendance) in locations like Denver, Austin, or Portland.
  • Professional development budget of $2,500 per year for courses, certifications, or conferences.

Who You’ll Work With

You will join a distributed team of 45 engineers, designers, and project managers who value autonomy, clear communication, and high-quality output. Your direct manager is a Principal Mechanical Engineer with 15+ years of experience in consumer product design and robotics. The team includes electrical engineers, industrial designers, and supply chain specialists who are passionate about building products that matter.

We pride ourselves on a supportive, low-ego culture where everyone’s ideas are heard. Regular virtual coffee chats, design jams, and asynchronous collaboration keep the team connected across time zones.

Hiring Process

  1. Application review — We evaluate your resume, portfolio, and cover letter within 5 business days.
  2. Portfolio deep-dive (45 min) — Present one of your past mechanical design projects to a senior engineer.
  3. Technical CAD exercise (90 min) — Complete a remote, timed modeling challenge using SolidWorks or Inventor.
  4. Final conversation with the hiring manager (30 min) — Discuss your career goals, remote work style, and how you can contribute.
