Job Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer to join its Minneapolis, Hennepin County team. This role leverages deep technical expertise to guide transmission system planning and ensure reliable power delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice and consulting on transmission planning studies and projects.
• Develop and evaluate long‑term transmission expansion plans, including load forecasts, reliability assessments, and cost‑benefit analyses.
• Coordinate with internal engineering, operations, and external stakeholders such as regulators and utilities.
• Lead the preparation of reports, presentations, and regulatory filings.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best‑practice standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in transmission planning, system analysis, or power system engineering.
• Strong knowledge of NERC reliability standards, FERC filing processes, and industry planning software (e.g., PSS®E, PowerWorld).
• Proven ability to perform complex load flow, stability, and contingency analyses.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder‑management skills.

Compensation

Salary range: $98,242.62 per year.
