Staff Accountant
About This Position
Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to join its finance team in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County. This full‑time role supports the nonprofit’s diverse social service programs with accurate financial reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and record monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals for multiple grant‑funded programs.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring proper classification of expenses and revenues.
- Support budget development, monitor variances, and provide explanations to program managers.
- Coordinate audit schedules, compile supporting documentation, and respond to auditor inquiries.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, reimbursements, and grant reimbursements.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, especially those governing nonprofit finances.
- Collaborate with the Development team on donor reporting and contribution tracking.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or government environments.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Benefits & Compensation
Annual salary: $49,820.75. Comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, retirement plan, and generous paid time off.
