SME System Administrator

GovCIO is seeking a skilled SME System Administrator to support mission‑critical applications for the U.S. Coast Guard. This fully remote role is based in Boise, Ada County, US, with a fixed annual salary of $89,132.36.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications and automated workflows following the Software Lifecycle Management Plan (SLMP).
• Provide expert system administration for Windows and Linux environments, ensuring high availability and security.
• Implement and monitor system patches, updates, and configurations in line with federal guidelines.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to troubleshoot incidents and improve performance.
• Create and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge‑base articles.
• Support continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code practices.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of system administration experience in a federal or defense contracting environment.
• Strong expertise in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, virtualization (VMware/Hyper‑V), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
• Proficiency with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Knowledge of security frameworks (NIST, DISA STIG) and ability to apply hardening guidelines.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and remotely.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard or other maritime agencies.
• Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or Red Hat Certified System Administrator.
