About This Position
Job Summary
GovCIO is seeking a SME System Administrator to support mission‑critical applications for the U.S. Coast Guard. This fully remote role is based in Wyoming, Kent County, US, with a salary of $113,870.65 per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain mission‑enabling applications in line with the Software Lifecycle Management Plan (SLMP).
- Provide expert system administration for Windows and Linux environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Automate workflows and implement configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell).
- Monitor system health, troubleshoot incidents, and apply patches and updates promptly.
- Collaborate with developers, cybersecurity teams, and stakeholders to deliver secure, compliant solutions.
- Maintain documentation of system architectures, procedures, and change logs.
- Participate in on‑call rotation and support rapid incident response for Coast Guard operations.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in system administration for enterprise‑level IT environments.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux (RHEL/CentOS), virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Hands‑on experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and automation frameworks.
- Understanding of IT security best practices, NIST guidelines, and DoD compliance.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting federal or defense agencies, especially the U.S. Coast Guard.
- Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM processes and ticketing systems.
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer, or CompTIA Security+.
