Job Summary

GovCIO is seeking a SME System Administrator to support mission‑critical applications for the U.S. Coast Guard. This fully remote role is based in Douglas, Juneau, US, with a salary of $103,926.31 per year.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain mission‑enabling applications in line with the Software Lifecycle Management Plan (SLMP).
• Implement and manage automated workflows to accelerate delivery of functional software.
• Provide expert-level system administration for Windows and Linux environments, including patching, configuration, and performance tuning.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot incidents, and ensure high availability of critical services.
• Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to integrate best practices and resolve technical issues.
• Document system configurations, procedures, and knowledge‑base articles for continuous improvement.
• Support change management processes and assist in disaster recovery planning and testing.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in system administration, preferably within a federal or defense contracting environment.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Linux (RHEL/CentOS) operating systems.
• Hands‑on experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation.
• Understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and security best practices.
• Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM processes.
• Certification such as Microsoft MCSE, Red Hat RHCE, or CompTIA Security+.
