About This Position
Google is hiring a Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Cloud Observability in Grand Central, Manhattan, US. This senior role leads reliability initiatives for Google Cloud’s observability platform, driving architecture, performance and incident response.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end‑to‑end reliability and performance of Cloud Observability services used by millions of customers worldwide.
- Design, implement, and scale monitoring, alerting, and tracing systems across multi‑regional deployments.
- Lead incident management, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem processes to improve service availability.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and security teams to define SLOs, SLIs and error budgets.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence technical strategy across Google Cloud.
- Drive automation and tooling to reduce manual toil and improve operational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of professional experience with data structures, algorithms and large‑scale software development.
- Deep expertise in site reliability engineering, including capacity planning, fault tolerance, and distributed systems.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Java, C++ or Python.
- Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous problems, make data‑driven decisions and influence senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or related discipline.
- Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and observability tools (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Stackdriver).
- Track record of publishing open‑source contributions or technical papers.
- Strong communication skills and a history of mentoring technical teams.
Compensation
Base salary: $261,061 per year.
