Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Job Summary

Neptune Ltd is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer in Swindon, Wiltshire to lead the design, implementation and maintenance of its cloud and on‑premise infrastructure. This senior role reports to the Cloud and Infrastructure Manager and is critical for keeping Neptune’s technology platforms secure, reliable and performant.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, deployment and optimisation of hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, private cloud).
• Design, configure and maintain networking, firewalls, VPNs and load‑balancing solutions.
• Implement security best practices, conduct vulnerability assessments and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct knowledge‑sharing sessions and act as the technical deputy for the Cloud and Infrastructure Manager.
• Monitor system performance, respond to incidents, and drive root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with development, operations and warehouse teams to support digital services and warehouse automation systems.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code scripts (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell) and documentation.
• Manage capacity planning, cost optimisation and disaster‑recovery strategies.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience in infrastructure engineering, with a focus on cloud platforms and hybrid environments.
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols, routing, switching and security appliances.
• Proficiency in infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) and scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) and incident‑management processes.
• Solid understanding of security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR) and implementation of firewalls, IDS/IPS.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and leadership abilities.
• Relevant certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, CCNP, CISSP) are a plus.
