Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality nursing care to critically ill neonates in the NICU, including assessments, medication administration, and interventions.
- Float between designated NICU locations within the Lafayette Region, adapting quickly to varying unit protocols and team dynamics.
- Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records and ensure compliance with Ochsner’s safety and quality standards.
- Provide education and support to families, explaining procedures, treatment plans, and newborn care practices.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, code responses, and emergency drills.
- Mentor and precept new graduate nurses and float pool peers as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of Louisiana.
- Minimum of 2 years NICU experience preferred; recent NICU experience is essential.
- Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt rapidly to different unit environments and maintain composure under pressure.
