About This Position
UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Medical Director Oncology UM to work remotely from anywhere in the United States, based in Five Points, Wake County. This senior clinical leadership role focuses on utilization management for oncology services, driving evidence‑based care and cost‑effective treatment pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead oncology utilization management programs, reviewing medical necessity and appropriateness of cancer therapies.
- Develop and implement evidence‑based clinical guidelines, pathways, and prior authorization criteria.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and health‑plan partners to optimize patient outcomes while controlling costs.
- Provide expert clinical consultation on complex oncology cases and emerging therapies.
- Analyze utilization data, identify trends, and present actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Mentor and supervise a team of clinical reviewers and support staff.
- Stay current with oncology research, FDA approvals, and reimbursement policies.
Required Qualifications
- Board‑certified oncologist (MD or DO) with active medical license in at least one US state.
- Minimum 7 years of clinical oncology experience, including experience in utilization management or health‑plan settings.
- Strong knowledge of oncology drug therapies, clinical guidelines (NCCN, ASCO), and payer policies.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.

- Prior experience in a medical director or senior clinical leadership role.
- Familiarity with health‑information technology platforms and data analytics tools.

Compensation & Benefits
