About This Position
Argyll & Bute Council is hiring a Marine and Roads Inspector for the islands of Islay and Jura, UK. This full‑time role offers a salary between £30,001 and £40,000 and involves safeguarding coastal and road infrastructure across the islands.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and assess the condition of marine structures, coastal works, and road networks on Islay and Jura.
- Monitor compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Produce detailed inspection reports, risk assessments and maintenance recommendations.
- Liaise with contractors, engineers and local stakeholders to coordinate repair and improvement works.
- Maintain accurate records and update asset management systems.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents or public enquiries related to marine and road assets.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification in civil engineering, marine engineering or a related field (NVQ Level 3 or higher).
- Proven experience inspecting and maintaining coastal and road infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, environmental standards and local authority procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in remote island settings and travel between Islay and Jura as required.
- Valid UK driving licence.
