Job Summary
Actalent is seeking a skilled Construction Materials Technician in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, US. This role involves field and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt and steel, with a salary of $52,386.92 per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on‑site sampling, testing, and visual inspection of construction materials according to project specifications and ASTM standards.
- Transport material specimens to the laboratory, oversee lab testing, and ensure chain‑of‑custody documentation.
- Prepare accurate daily reports, test results, and transmittals for project managers, engineering technicians, clients and contractors.
- Maintain testing equipment, calibrate instruments, and troubleshoot any technical issues.
- Assist in developing testing plans, quality‑control procedures, and corrective actions when results fall outside tolerances.
- Collaborate with field crews to ensure safety compliance and proper sample handling.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience performing construction material testing (soil, concrete, asphalt, steel).
- Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and local building code testing methods.
- Proficient in using field testing equipment (e.g., slump cones, nuclear density gauges, compression testing machines).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting to diverse stakeholders.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple job sites within the Kansas City area.
Preferred Skills
- Certification as a Certified Construction Materials Technician (CCMT) or similar.
- Experience with laboratory software (e.g., Procore, Trimble, or similar QA/QC platforms).
- Basic knowledge of GIS or CAD for site mapping.
