Commercial Accountant

Job Summary

We are seeking a Commercial Accountant for Waste Management in Auckland, North Island. This full‑time role works closely with operations, commercial teams and senior leadership to deliver financial insights that drive divisional performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with operational leaders to provide timely financial analysis and recommendations that influence business decisions.
• Prepare, review and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and performance reports.
• Analyse cost structures, pricing models and profitability by product line, project or customer.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.
• Collaborate with the commercial team on contract reviews, pricing negotiations and risk assessments.
• Identify process improvement opportunities, implement best‑practice controls and support audit activities.
• Maintain compliance with NZ GAAP, tax legislation and internal policies.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Qualified accountant (CA, CPA or equivalent) with 3–5 years of commercial or management accounting experience.
• Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities; comfortable working with large data sets.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, SAP) and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent communication skills – able to translate complex financial data into clear business insights.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across operations, sales and senior leadership.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail and a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in the waste‑management, utilities or environmental services sector.
• Knowledge of cost accounting, pricing strategies and contract management.
