About This Position
The BIPOC Youth Journalism Fellow position with Journalists for Human Rights is a temporary part‑time contract role based in Toronto, Ontario, with remote work across Canada. Earn $25.25 per hour for a minimum of 15 hours per week while contributing to Ku’ku’kwes News.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit news stories that highlight BIPOC youth perspectives.
- Collaborate with editorial staff to develop story ideas and ensure cultural sensitivity.
- Conduct interviews (in‑person or virtual) with community members, experts, and youth participants.
- Fact‑check sources and adhere to journalistic ethics and standards.
- Assist in publishing content across digital platforms and social media.
- Participate in virtual team meetings and editorial reviews.
Qualifications
- Strong writing and reporting skills with a portfolio of published work.
- Demonstrated interest in social justice, human rights, and BIPOC issues.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada; residents of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador are preferred.
- Basic knowledge of digital publishing tools and social media platforms.
Compensation & Schedule
Hourly rate: $25.25 /hr
Minimum commitment: 15 hours per week
Contract: Temporary part‑time, ending January 17, 2025 (or earlier if the position is filled).
