BIPOC Youth Journalism Fellow

The BIPOC Youth Journalism Fellow position with Journalists for Human Rights is a temporary part‑time contract role based in Toronto, Ontario, with remote work across Canada. Earn $25.25 per hour for a minimum of 15 hours per week while contributing to Ku’ku’kwes News.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, write, and edit news stories that highlight BIPOC youth perspectives.
• Collaborate with editorial staff to develop story ideas and ensure cultural sensitivity.
• Conduct interviews (in‑person or virtual) with community members, experts, and youth participants.
• Fact‑check sources and adhere to journalistic ethics and standards.
• Assist in publishing content across digital platforms and social media.
• Participate in virtual team meetings and editorial reviews.

Qualifications

• Strong writing and reporting skills with a portfolio of published work.
• Demonstrated interest in social justice, human rights, and BIPOC issues.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada; residents of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador are preferred.
• Basic knowledge of digital publishing tools and social media platforms.
