Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join Aston Carter in Trussville, Jefferson County, US. This full‑time role will oversee the complete accounting function for a growing engineering firm, handling project finance, bookkeeping, payroll and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full financial lifecycle of engineering projects, from budgeting to final reporting.
• Perform day‑to‑day bookkeeping, including journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare and process payroll accurately and on schedule.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations and filing requirements.
• Conduct month‑end and year‑end close processes, produce financial statements and variance analyses.
• Collaborate with project managers and senior leadership to provide financial insights and support decision‑making.
• Maintain internal controls, assist with audits and implement process improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA preferred.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in engineering or construction.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, payroll processing and tax compliance.
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.

Compensation & Benefits
