About This Position
Job Summary
Woods is looking for a Senior Underground Infrastructure Locator Lead to head its Underground Infrastructure Intelligence capability within the Geospatial team in Auckland. This senior technical and leadership role focuses on ground‑penetrating radar, electromagnetic locating, utility investigations and GIS mapping for major infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Underground Infrastructure Intelligence function, setting strategy and standards.
- Plan, conduct and oversee ground‑penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locating (EML/EMI) surveys.
- Develop and maintain GIS and utility mapping workflows, ensuring data accuracy and integration.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction and project management teams on large‑scale infrastructure schemes.
- Mentor and train junior locators, fostering a high‑performing technical team.
- Produce detailed reports, maps and recommendations for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies and compliance requirements.
Essential Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in underground utility detection, including GPR and electromagnetic methods.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams or projects.
- Strong proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and utility mapping tools.
- Experience working on large infrastructure or construction projects in New Zealand.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in surveying, geospatial science or a related field.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of New Zealand utility regulations and standards.
- Experience with BIM integration and digital twins.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
