About This Position
The Cato Institute is hiring a Director of Government Affairs in Washington, D.C., to lead legal and technology policy initiatives and strengthen relationships with federal policymakers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic government‑affairs agenda focused on legal and technology policy.
- Build and maintain relationships with Congress members, agency officials, and think‑tank leaders.
- Represent Cato scholars in briefings, hearings, and policy discussions.
- Coordinate research outputs to ensure they meet the needs of federal decision‑makers.
- Oversee a small team of policy analysts and manage external advocacy partners.
- Prepare briefing materials, testimony, and policy recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related legal/technology field.
- Proven network of contacts on Capitol Hill and within federal agencies.
- Strong understanding of U.S. legal and technology regulatory frameworks.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Track record of influencing policy outcomes through research and advocacy.
Compensation
Salary: $112,915.24 annually (fixed). Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement plan, and generous paid time off.
