Executive Director – AI Transformation – Remote

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an Executive Director – AI Transformation to lead strategic AI initiatives for Optum Insight, working remotely from Wellston, Saint Louis County, US.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the AI transformation roadmap that aligns with Optum Insight’s mission to improve health data flow.
• Lead cross‑functional teams of data scientists, engineers, product managers and clinicians to design, develop, and deploy AI solutions.
• Partner with senior leadership, payers, providers and technology partners to identify high‑impact use cases and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Drive measurable outcomes such as cost reduction, risk management improvement, quality enhancement and revenue growth.
• Manage a multi‑million‑dollar budget, track ROI, and report progress to executive stakeholders.
• Champion a data‑driven culture, mentor talent, and recruit top AI expertise.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience driving AI/ML initiatives in healthcare or a related regulated industry.
• Proven track record of delivering large‑scale AI products that generate quantifiable business value.
• Strong strategic thinking, change‑management, and executive‑level communication skills.
• Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or MBA) in Computer Science, Data Science, Healthcare Informatics, Business, or related field.
• Deep understanding of healthcare data standards, privacy (HIPAA) and compliance requirements.
• Experience managing budgets around $200 K+ and leading remote, distributed teams.
