Job Summary
Merck is seeking a Principal Scientist – Early Program Monitoring, Device Product Assessment and Innovation in Boston, Suffolk County, US. This senior R5 role leads early‑phase and preclinical drug‑device combination projects, shaping delivery strategies from concept to development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead early‑program monitoring for drug and drug‑device combination candidates.
- Define and optimize formulation attributes (stability, viscosity, concentration, delivery volume, excipient compatibility) to match target delivery models.
- Collaborate with Discovery, Pharmaceutics, Engineering, and Clinical teams to align product design with regulatory and commercial expectations.
- Drive device product assessment, risk analysis, and innovation pipelines.
- Mentor junior scientists and foster cross‑functional knowledge sharing.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and regulatory documentation.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in drug delivery, formulation development, and device integration.
- Proven track record of advancing preclinical programs to IND or clinical stages.
- Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
- Experience with FDA/EMA regulatory pathways for combination products.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $164,342.27 annually, plus Merck’s comprehensive benefits package.
