About the Role
As a Water Resources Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing, analyzing, and implementing solutions for flood risk management, stormwater infrastructure, watershed restoration, and water supply planning. You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, from urban drainage studies to multi-purpose reservoir operations, collaborating with civil engineers, environmental scientists, planners, and public agencies. This position is based in our vibrant Denver office, with occasional fieldwork required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling using industry-standard software (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, InfoWorks ICM).
- Design stormwater management facilities, including detention ponds, culverts, channels, and green infrastructure systems.
- Conduct floodplain analyses and mapping in compliance with FEMA guidelines and local regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and engineering plans and specifications.
- Support watershed planning initiatives and water resource feasibility studies.
- Participate in client meetings, public presentations, and interdisciplinary project teams.
- Provide construction phase support and as-built review.
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with a strong foundation in water resources engineering principles and a proactive approach to project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or a closely related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire is highly desirable.
- 3-7 years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
- Proficiency with H&H modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS) and GIS tools.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations, including MS4 permits and FEMA flood mapping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS 2D, TUFLOW).
- Knowledge of low-impact development (LID) and green infrastructure design.
- Background in Colorado water law, water rights, or water supply planning.
- Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and client coordination.
Salary Range
Based on experience, qualifications, and location, the estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 – $120,000 USD per year. Our competitive compensation package also includes a generous benefits program and eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus.
