Senior Project Engineer <a href="https://wehired.agency/jobs/" style="color:var(--primary-color); font-weight:600;">Remote</a> Job – Lead High-Stakes Infrastructure Projects

Imagine steering multimillion-dollar engineering projects from your home office, with the freedom to design your day and the trust to make monumental decisions. This is not a standard remote role; it is a senior leadership position for an engineer who thrives on complexity, demands excellence, and wants to shape the future of critical infrastructure without being tied to a single city.

About the Role

As our Senior Project Engineer, you will be the technical and operational cornerstone for our most ambitious projects in energy, transportation, or industrial sectors. You will own the full project lifecycle—from initial feasibility studies and detailed design through construction, commissioning, and closeout. This role is 100% remote, requiring a self-motivated leader who can navigate ambiguity, inspire teams across time zones, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and serve as a key advisor to executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, scheduling (using Primavera P6/MS Project), cost estimating, risk management, and resource allocation.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Perform technical reviews, value engineering analyses, and constructability assessments to optimize designs and outcomes.
  • Implement and champion robust HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) protocols and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Manage project financials, including forecasting, budgeting, change order negotiation, and final cost reporting.
  • Proactively identify project risks and issues, developing and deploying effective mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and develop junior project engineers and coordinators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

We are looking for a proven leader with a blend of deep technical expertise and sharp business acumen. This is not an entry-level position; it is for engineers who have already built a track record of delivering.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in project engineering management, with at least 5 years leading large-scale ($20M+) infrastructure or industrial projects.
  • Mastery of project management software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel for data analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in construction methodologies, contract administration (AIA, ConsensusDocs), and industry-specific codes (e.g., ASCE, ASME, NEC).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports, presentations, and executive summaries.
  • A stable, high-speed internet connection and a dedicated, professional home workspace.

Preferred Attributes

  • Master’s degree in Engineering Management, MBA, or a related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Direct experience in [Specific Sector, e.g., renewable energy, heavy civil, utilities].
  • Proven ability to manage remote, distributed teams effectively.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a senior-level position with a compensation package that reflects your experience and impact.

Salary Range

$110,000 – $140,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience and project portfolio. Performance-based bonuses are available annually.

Comprehensive Remote-First Benefits

  • True Location Independence: Work from anywhere. We trust you to manage your time and deliver results.
  • Home Office Stipend: An annual budget to optimize your workspace—ergonomic chair, monitors, accessories.
  • Flexible PTO: Unlimited, responsible paid time off to recharge and maintain peak performance.
  • Health & Wellness: Premium medical, dental, and vision insurance (80% employer-paid for you and dependents). Mental health stipend and wellness program.
  • Retirement Security: 401(k) plan with a 4% company match.
  • Continuous Growth: Annual professional development budget for conferences, certifications, and courses.
  • Technology Allowance: Latest laptop, software licenses, and mobile phone reimbursement.
