If you thrive on complex system design and want your work to have tangible environmental and community impact, this is your mission.
About the Role & Our Mission
As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Veridian Dynamics, you won’t just design circuits—you will architect the backbone of next-generation energy infrastructure. We are an engineering-first firm dedicated to solving the world’s most pressing power challenges, from microgrid stability to large-scale solar integration. In this role, you will own the full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies and simulation to final commissioning and validation. You will mentor junior engineers and serve as a technical authority, ensuring our designs meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and innovation. Based in our Austin headquarters, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects that power communities and industries sustainably.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Analysis Leadership
- Lead the design and analysis of medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) power distribution systems, including protection coordination, short-circuit studies, and arc flash hazard analysis using ETAP or SKM PowerTools.
- Develop detailed single-line diagrams, control schematics, and layout drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Design and specify electrical components including switchgear, transformers, VFDs, UPS systems, and protection relays.
- Perform system modeling and simulation for grid-tied renewable energy systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and microgrids.
Project & Technical Authority
- Act as the lead electrical engineer on multi-million dollar projects, managing technical scope, budget, and timeline.
- Conduct design reviews, constructability assessments, and vendor technical evaluations.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies (e.g., AHJ, utility companies) to ensure code compliance (NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE) and seamless project execution.
- Provide field engineering support during installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
Innovation & Mentorship
- Research and integrate emerging technologies like SiC-based power electronics, advanced grid monitoring, and IoT-enabled asset management.
- Mentor and develop a team of 2-4 mid-level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Contribute to company intellectual property and white papers on advanced power system topics.
Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE/MSEE) from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical power system design for industrial, utility, or renewable energy sectors.
- Expert proficiency with power system analysis software (ETAP, SKM, PowerFactory) and CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical).
- Deep, practical knowledge of NEC, IEEE 141/242/399, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Proven experience leading projects from concept to commissioning and managing client relationships.
Preferred Attributes
- Direct experience with battery storage system (BESS) integration, inverter-based resources, or grid-forming inverters.
- Familiarity with SCADA/EMS systems and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills for complex, non-routine engineering problems.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating technical details for non-technical stakeholders.
