About the Role

In this position you will lead the structural design of a diverse portfolio that includes low‑rise residential complexes, mid‑rise office buildings, and renewable‑energy facilities. You will perform rigorous analysis, produce detailed design documentation, and ensure every solution meets Ontario Building Code requirements, CSA standards, and the client’s sustainability goals. Working remotely, you’ll leverage cloud‑based platforms to stay connected with architects, contractors, and project managers from concept through construction administration, delivering high‑quality results without geographic constraints.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform gravity and lateral load calculations using SAP2000, ETABS, or STAAD.Pro, and verify results with hand‑check methods.
• Develop 3D models and produce shop drawings, erection plans, and detail sheets for steel, reinforced concrete, precast, and timber systems.
• Coordinate with architectural and MEP teams to resolve clashes and integrate structural systems within BIM environments (Revit, Tekla).
• Prepare design reports, calculations packages, and submission packages for municipal approvals and client review.
• Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and issue field instructions to maintain schedule and quality.
• Conduct periodic site visits (when required) to verify installation accuracy, monitor construction tolerances, and address unforeseen conditions.
• Stay abreast of updates to the Ontario Building Code, NBCC, CSA S16, S304, and emerging green building standards.
• Participate in internal knowledge‑sharing sessions, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Assist in business development by preparing technical proposals and presenting structural concepts to prospective clients.

Requirements

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required; a Master’s degree is a plus. Candidates must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license issued by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or be eligible to obtain one within the first six months of employment. Minimum three years of progressive experience in structural design for commercial, institutional, or infrastructure projects is expected.

Technical Skills

Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or RISA‑3D. Strong working knowledge of BIM tools including Revit Structure, Tekla Structures, or AutoCAD. Familiarity with Canadian steel and concrete design standards (CSA S16, CSA A23.3) and experience with foundation design, retaining walls, and seismic detailing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously in a remote setting.

Salary Range

Based on current market data for senior structural engineers in Ontario, the expected compensation for this fully remote role is $78,000 – $105,000 USD per year, adjusted for experience, credentials, and the scope of responsibilities.
